Jubair b. Nufair reported God’s messenger (ﷺ) as saying, “God finished sūra al Baqara with two verses which I have been given from His treasure which is under the Throne ; so learn them and teach them to your womenfolk, for they are a blessing, a means of approach [to God] and a supplication.”

Instructions in The Last Two Ayat of Surah Baqara

The last two verses of Surah Baqara were given to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) exclusively and not given to any prophet before him. Whoever recites them with sincerity and attention and seeks the pleasure of God, Allah will grant him the guidance and happiness described in these verses.

1. Basic Beliefs of a Muslim:

The basic beliefs of a Muslim have been described in these verses. When a person recites these verses, it is as if he testifies to his belief that he believes in Allah and in what Allah has revealed. It includes the belief in angels, inspired books, and all messengers. These beliefs were the most emphasized in Islam. Perhaps this is the reason why the excellence of these verses is very high.

In these verses, a Muslim confesses that he does not differentiate between any of the Messengers. Moreover, in these verses, it has been mentioned that whatever is ordered by Allah, should be accepted immediately and there should not be some kind of delay. It is said in these words, “We heard and we obeyed.”

2. Humble Prayers

In the last verse of Surah Baqarah, an attribute of Allah is mentioned that He does not burden anyone with more than he can bear. The person who does good or bad actions in this world will be rewarded in the same way in the Hereafter. The burden of someone else’s sins will never be put on him. Also, in this last verse, Allah has taught us many prayers.

Translation: ‘O our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or do some mistake. O our Lord laid not on us such a (heavy) burden as You laid on those before us. O our Lord put not on us (also) the burden that we have not the strength to bear, and overlook (our sins), and forgive us and have mercy on us. You alone are our Master and Helper. So grant us victory over the disbelievers.’

These are very beautiful supplications taught by Allah, in which we humbly ask Allah for forgiveness for our sins, ask Him for mercy, and at the same time seek to overcome the disbelievers. These are supplications in which we accept only Allah as our Lord and seek help only from Him.

Last 2 Ayats Benefits

It’s been said that anyone who knew the benefits of the last 2 verses of Surah Baqarah wouldn’t go to sleep without reciting them. As we can see, the status of these verses is immense, let’s make it our habit of reciting them on a regular basis.

The benefits of the last 2 Ayat of Surah Baqarah can be seen in the below Hadiths.

It was narrated by Abu Mas`ud Al-Ansari:

The Prophet said, If one recites the last two Verses of Surat-al-Baqara at night, it is sufficient for him (for that night) – Sahih al-Bukhari 5040

As we can understand from this Hadith, when a Muslim recites the last two verses of Surah Baqarah before sleeping, he/she will be protected from the Shaitaan that night.

There’s another Hadith with reference Sunan an-Nasa’i 912:

It was narrated that Ibn Abbas said:

“When Jibril was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he heard a sound from above like a door opening. Jibril, peace be upon him, looked up toward the sky and said: ‘This is a gate in Heaven that has been opened, but it was never opened before.” He said: “An Angel came down from it and came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘Receive the glad tidings of two lights that have been given to you and were never given to any prophet before you: The Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and the last verses of Surat Al-Baqarah. You will never recite a single letter of them but you will be granted it.'”

Conclusion

If we look at our modern life, how deprived of prosperity are our families? They are empty of so many beneficial actions and full of evil. So let’s make it a habit to read these verses from today and receive their blessings. These verses are also a means of protection from Satan, so we should not deny their importance and should make them a routine in our daily life.
