Allah is the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful. We often call upon Allah using His two of the most beautiful names Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem which refer to Allah’s attributes of being Merciful. In order to seek mercy from Allah (SWT), the person should make himself a deserving one.

How?

See the English translation of verse 56 from Surah An-Nur:

And establish prayer and give zakah and obey the Messenger – that you may receive mercy.

If the Muslim offers prayers on the regular basis, helps the needy with charity/zakat, and follows the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), then he may achieve mercy from Allah (SWT).

Do you know… Allah, the Most Merciful understands us and knows what is in our hearts even before we utter a single word while making Dua. He is Ar-Ra’oof and Al-Wadood (The Most Kind and The Most Loving). So call upon Him, and He will respond to you.

But the abundance of Allah’s mercy will come to you only if your intentions and actions are pure.

Allah says in the Qur’an,

“And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.” – [Surah Al A’raf verse 56]

Nothing can be hidden from Allah (SWT). He knows what is in your heart, what your intentions are, which cannot be faked. Only the one who is sincere will be deserving Allah’s mercy!

Show Mercy to Mankind

The person who shows mercy to the people on earth will be a deserving one to achieve mercy from Allah (SWT).

There are multiple Hadiths in this regard.

In one Hadith, Jarir bin Abdullah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:

“Whoever does not show mercy to the people, Allah will not show mercy to him.” – [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1922]

In another Hadith, Abdullah bin ‘Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:

“The merciful are shown mercy by Ar-Rahman. Be merciful on the earth, and you will be shown mercy from Who is above the heavens. The womb is named after Ar-Rahman, so whoever connects it, Allah connects him, and whoever severs it, Allah severs him.” – [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1924]

My Muslim brothers & sisters, the doors of repentance & Allah’s Mercy are always open for us. It is for our own good to seek forgiveness and ask for mercy now before the doors of repentance get closed permanently.

Adapt the habit of forgiving others for the sake of Allah. Work out on improving your actions which will be recorded by Allah. Remember that He is always full of mercy and compassion.
