Friday, according to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is the best day of the week.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday. Adam was created on Friday and on it he entered Paradise and on it he was expelled from therein. The Hour will not be established but on Friday.” – Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 854
It is considered to be the Eid-ul-Momineen ( the Eid of the believers). This was the day when deen was completed.
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ’We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day of Resurrection, though the former nations were given the Scriptures before us.
Then, this was their day (i.e. Friday) that was prescribed for them, but they differed about it.
So Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews’ (holy day is) tomorrow and the Christians’ is the day after tomorrow’. [Bukhari and Muslim]
Further, Friday is considered an important day for Dua and Ibadah. The special dhuhr prayer on this day is a time when believers are expected to leave all the worldly affairs and concentrate on ibadah.
O ye who believe! When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (The Day of Assembly), hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of Allah, and leave off business (and traffic): That is best for you if ye but knew! (Quran 62:9)
There are a Bunch of Things a Believer Should do on Friday
Things to do as part of the Preparation for the Prayer
Before the Jumma (Friday) prayer one must cleanse himself. this includes cutting nails, using siwak, and taking a bath. Next, he must wear the best of his clothes which are as presentable as possible. He must then apply perfume if he has one. Some people also apply Surma as an adornment because it is a sunnah as well.
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘This day is an ‘Eid (festival) which Allah has ordained for the Muslims. Whoever comes to Friday (prayer), let him take a bath and if he has perfume then let him put some on. And upon you (I urge to use) is the tooth stick.” (siwak/miswak)’. [Sunan Ibn Majah 1098]
Then one must walk to the masjid as early as possible.
Aboo Dawood reported (no. 345) from Aws ibn Aws ath-Thaqafee (radiallaahu ‘anhu):
I heard Allaah’s Messenger (salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) say:
“Whoever washes his head on the day of Jumu’ah, and takes a bath and arrives in time, and he walks and he does not ride, and he draws close to the Imaam, and he listens and he does not speak. Then for every step which he takes, there will be for him the reward of a year: the reward of fasting it and standing in Prayer.”
Shaikh al-Albaanee (R.A) said this hadeeth is (saheeh) authentic.

Things to do During the Sermon And the Prayer:
The sermon on this day is extremely important and must be given in a way that tackles current problems of the ummah and their solutions. Additionally, believers attending it are required to pay utmost attention o it.
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“If you say to your companion: Listen attentively on a Friday when the Imam is delivering the khutbah, then you have engaged in idle talk.” (Muslim)
The respect of this sermon is so high that a person trying to stop someone from disturbing him is also considered to be disrespectful towards it. The proper manner of sitting during the sermon is to not respond even to disturbance. After the sermon, the 2 Rakat of Jumma are led by an imam. This congregational prayer is intended to bring ummah together. On this day one must not leave out the sunnah prayers as it is a day of ibadah.
Things to do Rest of the Friday
Read Surah Al-Kahf:
Muslims are highly encouraged to read Surah Al-Kahf on Friday.
It was narrated from Abu Sa’id al-Khduri that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever reads Surah al-Kahf on Friday, he will be illuminated with light between the two Fridays.” (Narrated by al-Hakim; classed as sahih by al-Albani in Sahih al-Targhib, 836)
Surah al-Kahf has 3 beautiful stories which are in fact answers to the disbelievers’ questions to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). One must put an effort to read, memorize and understand this surah due to its virtue on Friday and it is also a protection from the fitna of dajjal.
“Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.”(Narrated by al-Haakim, 2/399; al-Bayhaqi, 3/249. Ibn Hajar said in Takhreej al-Adhkaar that this is a Hasan hadeeth, and he said, this is the strongest report that has been narrated concerning reading Soorat al-Kahf. See Fayd al-Qadeer, 6/198. It was classed as Saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6470)
Send Durood & Blessing on Prophet Mohammad (PBUH):
Sending blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) is one of the greatest acts of worship in Islam. The below Hadith shows the significance of sending Salawat every Friday.
Narrated Aws ibn Aws:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Among the most excellent of your days is Friday; on it Adam was created, on it he died, on it the last trumpet will be blown, and on it the shout will be made, so invoke more blessings on me that day, for your blessings will be submitted to me. The people asked: Messenger of Allah, how can it be that our blessings will be submitted to you while your body is decayed? He replied: Allah, the Exalted, has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of Prophets. – Sunan Abi Dawud 1047
Make Lots of Dua:
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) who said, ’Abu al-Qasim (the kunyah of the Prophet) (saw) said, “Indeed, there is surely a time on Friday at which no Muslim would stand, pray and beg Allah for what is good except that He would give it to him”. And he indicated with his hand that (this time) is short and narrow’. [Bukhari and Muslim]
This according to scholars is a time between asr and maghrib, most probably the last hour of Asr. This is the time when one must leave the Duniya and connect to his raab to ask for whatever good he wishes in both worlds. During this time one must also do a lot of Istighfar and Dhikr.
Give Sadaqah & Social Service:
On this day help others whichever way you can. Every financial, physical, or moral help will be highly rewarded. so help those in need.
