In order to get a peaceful and relaxing sleep, following Islamic practices and the Sunnah of our Prophet is highly recommended. In this article, I will be sharing the Dua with its meaning that is recited before going to bed. Allahumma Bismika Amutu Wa Ahya is a short and easy Dua that our Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) used to supplicate before going to sleep.
It was narrated by Hudhaifa (May Allah be pleased with him) that:
Whenever the Prophet intended to go to bed, he would recite: Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya (With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live) – Sahih Al-Bukhari 6324
Allahumma Bismika Amutu Wa Ahya Meaning in English
O Allah, with Your Name will I die and live (wake up)
You may also recite Ayatul Kursi Dua before sleeping as well. There are numerous amount of Hadiths that recommends reciting Ayatul Kursi before going to bed. One of the Hadith is mentioned below.
Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) said: By reciting it (Ayat- ul-Kursi), there will be a guardian appointed over you from Allah who will protect you during the night, and Satan will not be able to come near you until morning” – Al-Bukhari
Follow these before going to bed:
- Dust your bed thrice
- Do Miswaak
- Perform wudu
- Sleep on your right side, with your right hand under your cheek. Do not sleep on the stomach, it’s not liked by Allah (SWT).
- Recite the Dua
- Recite Subhan’Allah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times
- Forgive everyone before sleeping. Do not keep any grudge or revenge for anyone.
