Kids love fun & creative activities, and Ramadan can be the best month to keep them involved in understanding the importance of this blessed month. Parents can design a good Ramadan planner for kids to keep them engaged in Islamic activities and educate the children about the values of Ramadan in a creative manner.
In this article, we will go through a simple & fun guided process of creating a Ramadan planner.
Why Should Kids Use a Ramadan Planner?
In many ways, the planner will keep them connected to the spirit of Ramadan. A few reasons are mentioned below:
- The planner helps build a strong connection with Allah SWT since childhood.
- It keeps them engaged in tracking everyday activities such as fasting, salah, dhikr, good deeds, and other fun activities
- Stay motivated and develop a sense of responsibility and time management.
Choosing the Right Format is Essential
Before you start creating the Ramadan planner for kids, plan according to their choice (or you can ask your kids for any design recommendations).
- Kids are choosy in terms of colors. Make sure you choose colors and decorations according to their choice.
- Decide which type of planners are they comfortable with. Is it a paper printable format or a digital planner format? It’s better to design a printable format, as this will keep them away from the dangers of digital devices!
- Add DIY crafts to the planner. A scrapbook-style planner or a child-engaging layout can attract kids even more!
Create Fun & Engaging Sections
A Ramadan planner should contain multiple sections that can benefit the child mentally and spiritually.
Track Daily Players: This will help them remember their five daily prayers. It can be with colorful check boxes or a sticker area.
Checklist for Acts of Kindness: Encourage the child to do simple and meaningful acts such as sharing, assisting, or using kind words. Make a checklist or provide a section to write down the acts of kindness the child has done.
Track Fasting: If your child is old enough to fast then you can have a section where they can tick off each day that they have fasted. In the case of young children, you can have them track for a partial day fast or the “fake fast” where they do not eat snacks, for instance.
Track Quran Recitation: This section will help them track the Qur’an recitations done for the day. Encourage them to read or listen to a few verses of the Quran every day. You can add another area where they can mention what they have learned.
Add a Reflection Ramadan Journal: Add a section for your kid to draw his/her favorite iftar food or something they learned each day.
Fun Activities Section: Kids love to have fun, so it’s worth including a section for Ramadan crafts, puzzles, or drawings that the child can engage in, especially in the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
Personalize the Planner
Design the planner according to your child’s interests. For instance, if they like drawing, add more doodles or stencils. Let them fill in the colors according to their own choice.
If they like stories, then try including short Ramadan tales or add some space for them to write their own.
More importantly, create a planner based on daily goals. Make sure the planner helps track the activities regularly, not just once or twice a week. This way, the child stays motivated and habituated to the Islamic activities not just in Ramadan, but in other months too!
Use the Printable Together
Kids follow their parents’ actions. When you use the Ramadan planner to track everyday activities, your kids will follow the same. So, this can be a great opportunity for you to train your children in a fun and engaging way and help them understand the importance of Ramadan.
- You can talk about the good deeds done for the day & enter the same in the planner
- Teach them some small Duas and help them recite & checkmark in the planner
- Repeat this step for various activities and enter it into the planner.
