A Few More Quotes From Quran With Explanation

Surah Sharh: 5 & 6

So, surely with hardship comes ease – 5

Surely with ˹that˺ hardship comes ˹more˺ ease – 6

One of the most promising ayahs for a momin in a time of need, grief or difficulty is to know that every hardship comes with equivalent ease.

Allah has the plan to help a momin in some or the other way in this difficult time.

When hardship falls on a momin he does sabr and gets rewarded for it. Also, this is the time when dua is accepted the most. The hardships draw momin closer to Allah. Also, we know that dealing with hardships makes a man stronger it challenges our mind and body to become more stronger and enables us to handle more tough situations. This basically is human growth. This is how difficult is with ease.

Surah Rahman: 31

Then which of your Lord’s favours will you ˹humans and jinn˺ both deny?

This surah specifically mentions a lot of favor Allah has bestowed upon us and this particular ayah keeps repeating throughout the surah. If someone ponders over it they will never feel depressed about anything in life. This ayah can be used by every single one of us to try to count the countless blessings of Allah on us. Once a person realizes how much he or she is given and how much he or she holds of Duniya then one would tremble with happiness and fear.

Happiness because he is so rich in so many aspects and fear because he has thanked or has realized so little of it. One who feels depressed must read this ayah from the depth of the heart to know that on the day of judgment, his sadness for Duniya was a waste as he already had so much to cherish.

Surah Baqrah: 83

And ˹remember˺ when We took a covenant from the children of Israel ˹stating˺, “Worship none but Allah; be kind to parents, relatives, orphans and the needy; speak kindly to people; establish prayer; and pay alms-tax.” But you ˹Israelites˺ turned away—except for a few of you—and were indifferent.

Although this ayah says the instructions to bani Israel but all of these are basics of Islamic teachings. These include the pillars of Islam ( except haj) and also include the main hakook ul Ibaad ( rights of people). To worship Allah alone, to offer salah, and to pay zakah, are the main pillars of Islam. To obey parents, and being kind and helpful towards orphans and the poor is important for all Muslims. Speaking well with others is a major characteristic trait of a righteous person. This one instruction is really very important to ponder. The one who is humble and God-fearing will not belittle others. such a person cares about others’ feelings and we always make sure not to hurt others with his tongue or speech. Hadith regarding this :

Al Hujrat 48:11

O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name [i.e., mention] of disobedience after [one’s] faith. And whoever does not repent – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.

4:86

And when you are greeted, respond with a better greeting or at least similarly. Surely Allah is a ˹vigilant˺ Reckoner of all things. 5:13

But for breaking their covenant We condemned them and hardened their hearts. They distorted the words of the Scripture and neglected a portion of what they had been commanded to uphold. You ˹O Prophet˺ will always find deceit on their part, except for a few. But pardon them and bear with them. Indeed, Allah loves the good-doers.

Surah Bakrah: 42

Do not mix truth with falsehood or hide the truth knowingly.

This is one of the gravest sins. To instruct of truth is a trait of momin and to do the opposite of it is a trait of a munafiq. He is the one who hides the truth and instructs of falsehood. Today we see it’s a norm for people to lie in the name of a joke or prank. Lying is indeed hiding the truth. With this we see people cause pain or discomfort to some and others enjoy this. When shaitan wants to indulge us in bad he will first make people comfortable with bad and then he will let them forget that this is even a sin.

Surah Baqra: 153

O believers! Seek comfort in patience and prayer. Allah is truly with those who are patient.

Surely the best way to seek help during difficulty is through salah and sabr. Let’s see this in detail.

Help with salah: prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said salah is key to Allah’s treasures. So those who seek help must seek it through salah. Praying salah with utmost concentration and devotion will open doors of Allah’s mercy and his attention. Once someone has this he or she will find ease with everything in life.

Help with Sabr:

Sabr means to strive with patience.

It doesn’t mean ‘do anything and wait ‘as it’s popularly believed to be. But it means working on the solution to the difficulty with patience and assurance that Allah is the best helper.

Surah Baqra: 186

When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺.

This is such a beautiful ayah for anyone who makes dua. When a person knows Allah is so close and he responds to every call of the caller. this itself is a great comfort. It gives peace to the heart that when I call, Allah answers. We must make all our duaa keeping this in mind and with at most trust that allay will give us the best.

Surah Baqra: 286

Allah does not require any soul more than what it can afford. All good will be for its own benefit, and all evil will be for its own loss. ˹The believers pray,˺ “Our Lord! Do not punish us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord! Do not place a burden on us like the one you placed on those before us. Our Lord! Do not burden us with what we cannot bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our ˹only˺ Guardian. So grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”

this is one of the best Duas. It’s comfort for a pained heart. It’s an assurance that whatever befalls us is undergone control and we have the power to deal with it. It also says us that good is the reward of good and bad is the return of bad. This dua also makes us seek forgiveness for our mistakes, seek refuge from calamities like those of previous generations, and asking ease, seeking mercy, and victory over the enemy.

Surah Al-Ma’idah: 105

O Believers, look after your own souls; it can do no harm to you, if anyone else goes astray, provided that you yourselves are on the right path.119 To Allah shall you all return: then He will let you know what you have been doing.

Our bodies are for Duniya and our souls are for akhirah. We surely have to answer for our bodies as well but it’s our souls that decide whether we go to heaven or hell. Therefore it’s important to take care of our soul and nourish it with good. But how do we do so?

Souls need purification like our bodies. The only way to have a pure soul is to submit to Allah’s will in every aspect of life. To stop sinning and take part in every good deed will make our souls beautiful and peaceful. Ibadah, zikar, giving others rights, helping those in need, feeding the hungry, and caring for orphans are a few of the ways to keep our souls alive and clean.

Surah Al-A’raf: 156

Ordain for us what is good in this life and the next. Indeed, we have turned to You ˹in repentance˺.” Allah replied, “I will inflict My torment on whoever I will. But My mercy encompasses everything. I will ordain mercy for those who shun evil, pay alms tax, and believe in Our revelations.

This is such a promising ayah for all those who have sinned and now are losing hope of forgiveness. The mercy of Allah is on everyone and everything in this world.

Even the worst of sinners breathe from the air Allah has provided and this is his mercy.

Surah Al-A’raf: 204

When the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent, so you may be shown mercy.

I particularly included this ayah under this topic as a lot of us overlook the importance of listening to the Quran. Often we see people play recordings of the Quran and simultaneously talk among themselves. This is not a good thing to do. When you are ready to attentively and humbly listen to Quran only then play the recording. Also, it’s essential to give clear instructions and teach proper adaab to your children in this regard. Teach them to sit and calmly listen to Quran. Keep the playtime of the recording short but adaab of the Quran is very very important. Playing Quran must not be our intention rather listening to it with respect should be.

Surah Hud: 88

He said, “O my people, have you considered: if I am upon clear evidence from my Lord and He has provided me with a good provision from Him…?1 And I do not intend to differ from you in that which I have forbidden you; I only intend reform as much as I am able. And my success is not but through Allāh. Upon Him I have relied, and to Him I return.

As said by Shoaib (AS) in this verse we must all rely for success on Allah not on our work and ideas. Allah asked people to work hard but it’s only Allah who can give them success. When one does work he or she must try to give their best to it but they must never forget that success does not lie in one’s tadbeer but lies in Allah’s will. The credit for one’s success always goes to Allah.

Surah Ar-Ra’d: 11

For him [i.e., each one] are successive [angels]1 before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allāh.2 Indeed, Allāh will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allāh intends for a people ill,3 there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.

This ayah begins by saying that there are angels who by Allah’s will guards people ( ie noting their actions). Then Allah says good comes only to those who strive for that. so if you keep complaining about your faults or situations or difficulties or hurdles, you are only bound to be stuck in them forever. It is only by the intention that you break all these barriers. Remember a human has a unique power and because of this, he is the best at creating this power: to make choices. If you chose to do good only then will you be able to get that good?

To get out of a bad situation or weakness be it physical or spiritual, worldly or related to the hereafter One must first Intend to get out of it, and then one must work on acquiring this. Only after this Allah will change the situation. If only you complain or make dua of good and you do not change your mind nor do you work towards that good. Then Allah is not going to change the situation.

Surah Ibrahim: 35 to 41

˹Remember˺ when Abraham prayed, “My Lord! Make this city ˹of Mecca˺ secure, and keep me and my children away from the worship of idols – 35

My Lord! They have caused many people to go astray. So whoever follows me is with me, and whoever disobeys me—then surely You are ˹still˺ All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.- 36

Our Lord! I have settled some of my offspring in a barren valley, near Your Sacred House, our Lord, so that they may establish prayer. So make the hearts of ˹believing˺ people incline towards them and provide them with fruits, so perhaps they will be thankful. – 37

Some verses are direct dua which Allah has taught us. These verses are the dua that Ibrahim (as) has made. These are the verses that we must read and ponder every now and then, particularly, the last verse of this set of ayahs (ayah 41) is dua for forgiveness.

Surah An-Nahl: 22-23

Your God is the One God. But the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter are steeped in rejection of the Truth, and they are given to arrogance.

Surely Allah knows all that they conceal and all that they disclose. He certainly does not love those who are steeped in arrogance.

Hearts are the place of Iman and indeed the access to a man’s heart is none but himself and Allah. Any person can with his speech or actions convince us about his good character but he can never convenience himself as he knows what is in his heart. That is why Iman is in the heart. And Allah knows every single thing in our hearts. The last part of this ayah mentions arrogant people that Allah does not like them. Pride resides in one’s heart and destroys Iman there can be a scholar who seems really humble and knowledgeable but in his heart, he might feel proud of his knowledge and this pride can end him up in hell instead of heaven.

Surah Al-Kahf: 46

Wealth and children are the adornments of this worldly life, but the everlasting good deeds are far better with your Lord in reward and in hope.

Wealth and children are surely the most beloved to a man in this life. But a wise person knows that it’s his deeds that will help him in the hereafter. He knows that to work on one’s deeds is much worthy and hopeful

Surah Al-Anbya: 35

Every soul will taste death. And We test you ˹O humanity˺ with good and evil as a trial, then to Us you will ˹all˺ be returned.

This is perhaps one of the most important ayahs one must remember. When one remembers death he is bound to make decisions beneficial for akhirah. This will also keep him away from the distraction of the world. In the second part of ayah, Allah says he will test people with evil and good. a lot of times when a calamity falls it’s for us to return to Allah and when good comes it may drive us away from Allah. So a wise person always remembers Allah in all and every situation.

Al-Hujurat: 13

O humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may ˹get to˺ know one another. Surely the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you. Allah is truly All-Knowing, All-Aware.

This ayah reminds us of the great blessing of Allah, ‘the rain’. Although human survival is so much dependent on this only those with clear hearts ponder on this and turn towards their lord. The rain is a time when Allah accepts dua and for the one who wants to repent to Allah what better time than this?

Surah Najm: 32

those who avoid major sins and shameful deeds, despite ˹stumbling on˺ the minor sins. Surely your Lord is infinite in forgiveness…

This ayah is hope for all those who regret doing wrong deeds and those who have guilt in their hearts. They must know that Allah is ever forgiving and merciful. To sign is natural for humans

but from our father Adam ( A.S. ) we know to repent is also a trait of humans. Allah loves those who repent and turn towards him. This ayah asks momineen to avoid major signs then one can be hopeful that Allah will forgive the minor sins.

Surah Munafikeen: 9

O believers! Do not let your wealth or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. For whoever does so, it is they who are the ˹true˺ losers.

In this fast pace world, everyone seems to be running and juggling a lot of responsibilities. Everyone wants a good and peaceful life for themselves and their loved ones. But humans cannot be peaceful and successful without a proper connection with their lord. How much ever wealth you have, however successful your children are, the peace of heart lies in the remembrance of the lord. This ayah tells us exactly this. If you are too busy with Duniya maybe a mother who spends 24/7 looking after her house and kids or a father who works a lot for providing for the family or anyone in general, this ayah is a rescue. It will surely keep us reminded of why exactly Allah created us: to remember and to worship him alone.

Being mindful of Allah every single moment and taking out some peaceful moments for the Ibadah of Allah every single day will help us find true joy and peace.

Surah Taghabun: 11

No calamity befalls ˹anyone˺ except by Allah’s Will. And whoever has faith in Allah, He will ˹rightly˺ guide their hearts ˹through adversity˺. And Allah has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of all things

everyone goes through tough times and to get depressed is but natural. Such phases in life can break us but this ayah shows a different perspective of looking at calamities. Allah surely does not love to hurt us and when he permits a difficulty it is for our benefit. A lot of times a troubled situation increases our knowledge of the world in a way that otherwise is not possible.

Humans have shown great potential and powers when they were in troubled situations. There are a lot is examples of this. It’s sabr and having hope in Allah that will make us stand like a mountain in the flood of difficulties.

Surah Humazah: 1

Woe to every backbiter, slanderer.

Although this is one ayah it holds an extremely strong message. It talks about the one who backbites or slanders others. According to mufassireen humazah and lumazah can mean

  1. Saying bad about someone behind his back (humazah) or saying bad about someone in front of him (lumazah)
  2. Saying bad with tongue (humazah) or saying bad with gesture (lumazah)
  3. Backbiting (humazah) slander (lumazah).

All of these are included in the ayah. And what is the punishment for such a person? He or she will have to exchange his or her good deeds with the bad deeds of the person they have backbite or slandered. If some of that person’s bad deeds are still left after the exchange then he or she must take those bad deeds.

After knowing such a grave punishment it’s very important for us to try to save ourselves from such sin at every cost.

As you know, there are 10 rewards for reading a single letter of the Qur’an. Imagine the number of rewards you’ll gain by reciting the Quranic verses regularly.
