هُوَ الَّذِي يُصَوِّرُكُمْ فِي الْأَرْحَامِ كَيْفَ يَشَاءُ
Huwa allathee yusawwirukum fee al-arhami kayfa yashao
He is the One Who shapes you in the wombs of your mothers as He wills
Al-Musawwir, one of the 99 names of Allah (SWT), means “The Bestower of Forms,” “The Shaper,” or “The Fashioner.” This divine name signifies that Allah alone creates and shapes His creation exactly as He wills (كَيْفَ يَشَاءُ).
As I listened to the Tafseer of Surah Aal-e-Imran (3:6), a profound sense of guilt washed over me. How many times have I judged someone’s appearance—whether familiar or unfamiliar? How often have I carelessly listened to or even participated in conversations that ridicule others’ complexion, height, weight, or features?
We claim to be people of Imaan and followers of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, yet we remain heedless of the harm in such words and actions. We take pride in being born Muslim, yet we forget the very essence of our faith—humility, kindness, and respect for Allah’s creation. Every time we label someone as “short,” “fat,” “dark,” or “ugly,” are we not, in reality, questioning and insulting the divine wisdom of Al-Musawwir, the One who shaped all creation with perfection?
In this Dunya, society places immense emphasis on physical appearance, categorizing and judging people based on superficial traits. Marriage, professions, and even daily interactions are often dictated by these external standards, while the true essence of a person—their Akhlaq (character) and Taqwa (consciousness of Allah)—is overlooked. Yet, Islam teaches us that true worth is not in appearance but in the heart.
This single ayah carries a weighty lesson. Every time we recite it, let it serve as a reminder:
- To accept ourselves as Allah created us—without questioning His wisdom or comparing ourselves to others.
- To never judge others by their physical form, recognizing that every creation is perfect in the way Allah intended.
- To seek forgiveness (Istighfar) for past mistakes, ensuring we do not fall into the same error again.
May Allah (SWT) grant us the wisdom to see beauty through the lens of faith rather than fleeting worldly standards. May He guide us to purify our hearts, strengthen our character, and uphold the dignity of all His creation.
Ameen
