Umrah and Forgiveness: Hadith on Expiation for Sins

Umrah guarantees the forgiveness of sins. No other act of worship, like the obligatory and minor pilgrimage, promises expiation for all sins. It is the perfect way to purify your soul and start your life anew without the burden of past sins.

“Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively, for they remove poverty and sins as the bellows remove impurities from iron.” ( Nasa’i, 2630 – Hasan)

Allah’s Apostle said, “(The performance of) ‘Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise.” Sahih al-Bukhari 1773

These two Hadiths shed light on the exceptional rewards of the Umrah in ensuring forgiveness for all mortal sins. And as the second Hadith makes it obvious, all your past sins will be forgiven and if you perform an Umrah again, the sins between the two Umrahs will be forgiven.

Umrah in Ramadan: Rewards of Performing Hajj

There is a reason why Ramadan is the most in-demand time for performing an Umrah. Millions of Muslims from around the globe plan their pilgrimage during the holy month of fasting. You will be surprised to learn about the exceptional rewards and virtues of performing Umrah during Ramadan.

Al-Bukhari (1782) and Muslim (1256) narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to a woman from among the Ansar – Ibn ‘Abbas mentioned her name but I forgot it – “What kept you from performing Hajj with us?” She said: We only have two camels, and the father of her son and her son had gone for Hajj on one camel, and he left us the other camel so we could carry water on it. He said: “When Ramadan comes, go for ‘Umrah, for ‘Umrah in (that month) is equivalent to Hajj.”

The obligatory pilgrimage has even more rewards than Umrah. And not everyone can physically or financially afford to perform the obligatory pilgrimage. Performing Umrah in Ramadan is the perfect chance for those who cannot perform the Hajj to get the extensive rewards and blessings it promises.

Umrah and Duas: Hadith on Fulfillment of Desires

Another great reward and benefit of performing an Umrah is fulfilling the desires. As you might already know, Umrah pilgrims are the guests of Allah Almighty. So, you will not have to worry that the Almighty will not listen to your Duas while you are a guest at His home. Therefore, every pilgrim pours their heart out during the pilgrimage.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. If they call upon Him, He answers them, and if they seek His forgiveness, He forgives them.” (Ibn Majah, 2892 – Hasan)

This Hadith clarifies that Umrah is the source of fulfillment of all your desires. Allah Almighty will listen to you closely and give you whatever you want. So, spend most of your time in supplication and get all your Duas accepted before you leave Almighty’s house. If you’re planning for Umrah tours 2025, rest assured that this opportunity will bring you closer to Allah’s mercy.

Virtues of Performing Tawaf in Light of Hadith

Performing Tawaf around the Holy Kaabah is the primary ritual of Hajj and Umrah. As the Hadith explains, this key part of the pilgrimage also has significant rewards.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever circles the Ka‘bah seven times (Tawaf) and prays two Rak‘ahs, it is as if he has freed a slave.” (Ibn Majah, 2956 – Hasan)

This will motivate you to perform your Tawaf perfectly and devote yourself to the sacred worship act, yielding maximum rewards and blessings.

Summing Up

Umrah has many benefits, such as forgiveness of all mortal sins, removal of poverty, fulfillment of desires, and rewards for performing jihad. Authentic Hadith also supports these benefits. Therefore, you can expect exceptional rewards after performing the pilgrimage with pure intentions.
