There is no doubt that reading the glorious Quran and striving hard to perfect the way you recite the book of Allah S.W.T. is the greatest act of worship that can draw you near to Allah. Messenger sallahu alihi wasallam, in one of his hadiths, said: “Whoever recites a letter from Allah’s book, ten good deeds will be written for him. I am not saying: Alif, laam, and Meem are letters. Alif, Laam, and Meem are three different words.’’ So, these three letters, Alif, Laam, and Meem, equate to 30 good deeds.
Narrated Muhammad bin Ka’b Al-Qurazi: “I heard ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud saying:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.” – Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2910
So, what do you think the person will get when reading pages from Allah’s book? Many people do not read the Quran as much as they should. And sometimes, we don’t even know what we are meant to achieve by reading the Holy Quran. The only word of our maker in existence today that is not deniable, and it is authentic, confirmed by billions of people throughout generations, is the Quran.
Why It’s Necessary to Read the Holy Quran
Holy Prophet sallahu alihi wasallam said in one of the authentic narrations, that ‘’The one who is a professional in the Quran, will be from among the close and noble angles near Allah S.W.T and the one who recites the Quran, stumbles and is in hardship, then he will get twice the record.’’
This Hadith speaks blatantly about the importance of reading the Holy Quran.
Benefits of Reciting The Holy Qur’an
Source of Comfort: Quran is the source of comfort for its readers. The person feels solace and peace of mind by reading Holy Quran. You will think Allah is talking to you directly and discussing your problem. Musa (A.S) was unique among messengers of Allah in that he got to engage in regular and engaging conversations with Allah. Musa (A.S) got to speak so much to Allah, but he could not see him.
So, the desire to see Allah came in Musa (A.S). In ayat numbers 143 and 144 of Surah Al-Ar’af, Musa (A.S) said to Allah, ‘’Oh Master, Show me. I want to see you’’. Musa (A.S) is told, ‘’you are not going to see me (but why you don’t look towards this mountain and if it stays where it is, then you will see me) when his Master manifested some of his glory to the mountain, the glory made it explode. Musa (A.S) fell unconscious.
When he woke up, he said: ‘’how far above that you are, I repent for what I said’’. This incident shows us Allah’s glory in the Quran. So, Quran becomes a source of comfort for its readers because your creator talks directly with you.
Source of Guidance: Quran is a source of guidance for people as it discusses all the issues related to humans. The verse “The book we sent you to take mankind out of darkness and into the light” is found in Surah Ibrahim by Allah Subhana Wa Tala. Hence, we can find the best guidance in Holy Quran to live a good and happy life in every aspect of life.
Good Deeds: It has already been described how we can get ten good deeds by reading just one word of the Holy Quran. So, you can imagine how many acts one can get by reading just one Surah of the Holy Quran.
Brings You Closer to Allah: By reading Holy Quran, you get closer to Allah because you feel like Allah is directly conversing with you. And ultimately, you are clear about what Allah wants you to do and what not. Then you start doing what Allah loves.
Prophet Sallahu alihi wasallam once said: ‘’Indeed, Allah S.W.T has specially chosen people amongst man. The companions said, ‘’who is the messenger of Allah? ‘’ he sallahu alihi wasallam said, the people of Quran are the chosen group by Allah S.W.T and His V.I.P’’.
This Hadith speaks volumes about the fact that how Allah keeps people near him who recite Quran.
