Allahumma Rabban Naas Azhibil Dua Meaning in English

Illness. Pain. Hardship. The kind of difficulty that makes you feel helpless, no matter how strong you are. You can have the best doctors, the most advanced medicine, and the most supportive family. But when your body is aching, or your heart is heavy, there is only One who can truly remove the suffering.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ knew this better than anyone. And he taught us a specific dua for exactly these moments. A dua so powerful, so comprehensive, that the scholars of Islam have described it as one of the most effective supplications for seeking relief from any kind of harm. This Dua begins with the words Allahumma Rabban Naas Azhibil.

The azhibil ba’sa rabban naas dua is a supplication taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for seeking Allah’s healing and relief from illness, pain, and hardship. The phrase “Azhibil Ba’sa” literally means “Remove the harm” or “Take away the suffering.”

It is short, easy to memorize, and deeply profound. And it was not just a dua the Prophet ﷺ recited for himself. It was a dua he recited for others.

Aisha (radiAllahu anha), the beloved wife of the Prophet ﷺ, reported:

“When the Prophet (ﷺ) visited any ailing member of his family, he would touch the sick person with his right hand and would supplicate: “Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba’sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman.” – [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The Meaning of Azhibil Ba’sa Dua in English

“O Allah! the Rubb of mankind! Remove this disease and cure (him or her)! You are the Great Curer. There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease”

This hadith is recorded in both Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. The scholars agree upon it as authentic. And it is one of the most beautiful examples of how the Prophet ﷺ cared for the sick and taught us to turn to Allah in every moment of need.

The Arabic Text and Transliteration of Allahumma Rabban Naas Azhibil Dua

For those who want to memorize it in the original Arabic, here is the text:

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءٌ لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمَا

Transliteration: Allahumma Rabban-naas, adhhibil-ba’s, washfi, Antash-Shaafi, laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uka, shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman.

Some narrations begin with “Allahumma” and others with “Adhibil ba’sa” directly. Both are correct, and both are authentically reported. The most complete version is the one that begins with “Allahumma Rabban-naas.”

The dua is short enough to memorize in a few minutes. And once you learn it, it stays with you forever.

The Context: When the Prophet ﷺ Recited This Dua

The Prophet ﷺ did not recite this dua from a distance. He recited it up close, with his hands, with his heart, with his presence.

Aisha (radiAllahu anha) narrated that

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to treat some of his wives by passing his right hand over the place of ailment and used to say, “O Allah, the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble and heal the patient, for You are the Healer. No healing is of any avail but Yours; healing that will leave behind no ailment.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 5743

Another narration mentions that he would visit the sick, sit with them, and supplicate for them using these words. He did not just tell people to make dua. He made dua for them.

This teaches us something profound. Healing is not just an individual act. We are encouraged to make dua for others. When a loved one is sick, you can recite this dua over them. When you are sick, you can recite it for yourself. It is a gift from the Prophet ﷺ that keeps giving.

How to Incorporate Allahumma Rabban Naas Azhibil Dua Into Your Life

If you or someone you love is sick, make this dua a daily practice.

Recite it in the morning and evening. Recite it after your prayers. Recite it when you visit someone who is ill. Place your hand on the area of pain and recite it, following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. If you cannot reach the area, simply recite it with intention.

Teach it to your children. Let it become a part of your family’s vocabulary. When someone gets a headache, instead of just reaching for a pill, pause and recite this dua first.

And if you are the one suffering, do not despair. The Prophet ﷺ taught us this dua for a reason. He knew that sickness is a trial. He knew that pain is exhausting. And he gave us the words to call upon the Lord of mankind for complete healing.

A Final Word

Illness is a reminder. It reminds us that our bodies are not in our control. It reminds us that health is a gift, not a guarantee. And it reminds us that we have a Creator who hears, who sees, and who heals.

The Allahumma Rabban Naas Azhibil dua is a direct line to that Creator. It is short, but it is complete. It covers the removal of harm, the restoration of health, and the guarantee of a healing that leaves nothing behind.

So memorize it. Recite it. Share it with those who need it. And trust that Allah, the Lord of mankind, the Healer, will answer your call.

May Allah (SWT) remove every harm from our bodies, grant us complete healing from every illness, and protect us from every pain. May He be our Healer in this life and the next. Aameen, Ya Rabbal Alameen.
